The Minister of State for Luwero- Rwenzori Triangle, Hon. Alice Kaboyo has called upon women to take advantage of the conducive environment and the government programmes put in place to achieve financial freedom and economic sustainability.

“The Government has adopted the Parish Development Model (PDM) through which development will be channeled and services brought closer to the people. Given the Government’s unwavering commitment to women empowerment, it has resolved that 30% of the PDM funds be allocated to women in the Parish. Please organize yourselves in SACCOs to tap into the benefits of this wonderful programme,” Hon Kaboyo said.

The Minister made the remarks while officiating at the Women’s Day Celebrations organised under the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” in Nakasongola District on 19th March 2022.

She said the women’s contribution to the social, political and economic spheres ought to be deliberately promoted to achieve equitable and sustainable development. She added that constraints that hinder development such as gender inequalities and mindsets must be addressed.

“I want to talk about the dangerous vices of Gender-based violence, child marriages and teenage pregnancies that continue to disempower women and weaken our families and communities. I call upon District leaders in all your capacities to join efforts and intensify the fight against these dangerous practices,” the Minister said.

Hon. Kaboyo also applauded the NRM for its contribution towards granting women and the girl child a platform and unparalleled support to be emancipated.

She pledged to contribute UGX 15 million towards the Women SACCOs in the District.

The Woman Member of Parliament for Nakasongola District, Hon. Zawedde Victorious thanked the government for supporting and extending relief to the District through the Office of the Prime Minister when the area was affected by floods.

She also thanked the Minister of State for Luwero – Rwenzori Triangle for granting funds to the District to establish development Initiatives under the programme of the Micro projects in the Ministry.

Hon. Zawedde pledged the District’s commitment to supporting the President and the NRM government.

The function was attended by the District leaders, Security Officers and schoolchildren among others. End.
