KAKUMIRO
The Ordinary Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti has appealed to Christians to embrace government programmes aimed at creating wealth at household level.
“You need to improve on your household incomes so that you can ably educate your children for future leaders and responsible citizens,” said Kirabo.
He said that the government of Uganda has put in place several interventions aimed at helping households increase their incomes and asked the people to embrace such programmes.
Bishop Kirabo was on Sunday opening the new parish of St Joseph Nkooko in Kakumiro District in Hoima Catholic Diocese, Bunyoro Sub region. St Joseph’s Catholic Parish Nkooko is now the 53rd parish of the diocese.
According to Kirabo, Nkooko is historical in the way that the area was evangelized by a catechist identified as Joseph Mangazi in 1918 and was hailing from Butambala in Buganda.
According to the Bishop, Nkooko was well known as an area for witch doctors but Joseph Mangazi worked tirelessly in preaching the Gospel.
The man of God asked the public to value education and ensure that they educate their children for a bright future.
“You should take education of your children as a priority because an educated population can easily transform society and the country in general,” said Kirabo.
He tasked the new Parish Priest for Nkooko Joachim Kisakyamaria and his team to work together with the entire community for the development of the parish and the people.
The Bishop commended the Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja for her support to ensure that Nkooko is granted a parish status.
Nabbanja, who was the chief guest at the official opening of St Joseph Catholic parish Nkooko, pledged to continue supporting the newly born baby of St. Joseph Parish Nkooko to spread the word of God.
“We shall support the new parish so that it can achieve its goal of evangelization of the area,” said Nabbanja.
The parish sits on 65 acres of land but the challenge is that some of the titles on the land belong to the Baganda Absentee Landlords.
The new parish has been part of the greater Bukuumi Catholic Parish, the birth place and a gate way of the Catholic faith in the entire region of South Western Uganda.
The history of the church indicates that at Bukuumi, the word of God was first welcomed and later spread to other parts of Western Uganda.
Nkooko is also home to St. Andrea Kaahwa, one of the Uganda Martyrs.
The colourful ceremony was also attended by Woman Member of Parliament Kibaale Noeline Kisembo Basemera, the Kikuube LC V Chairperson Peter Banura, the Kakumiro District LCV Chairperson Joseph Sentayi among others.
