UNHCR, WFP delegations from Nairobi visit OPM Refugee Department

KAMPALA 

The Commissioner for Refugees, Patrick Okello hosted a delegation of UNHCR and WFP representatives from the Nairobi Regional Office at the Department of Refugees in Kampala.

During the courtesy visit, operational updates on Uganda’s refugee response were shared to enable the delegation to understand more about the generous refugee policies such as open borders, non-camp policy and integration of refugees into communities since these are considered among the most progressive steps globally.

The delegation from the UNHCR Regional office in Nairobi was led by Ms.Fatima Mohammed Cole, Regional Deputy Representative while from WFP the delegation was led by the Regional Deputy Representative Ms.Rukia Yacoub.

Okello thanked both WFP and UNHCR for the continued support to the refugees.

Both technical staff from the Department of Refugees together with UNHCR and WFP country teams attended the meeting.
