The Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated over 342 tonnes of relief food to Congolese Refugees in Uganda.

The relief food items were handed over by the Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia His Excellency Mohammed Bin Khalil Faroudah and was received by the Minister of State for Relief, Disaster preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Dr. Lillian Aber on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude on behalf of the Government of Uganda and on my own behalf to the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for their generous donation of relief aid food to the Refugees,” said Aber.   She added that it is the responsibility of all nations that are signatories to the UN charter on Refugees to assist in addressing the challenges refugees face worldwide.

Aber lauded President Yoweri Museveni for steering the country in the right direction especially by demonstrating exceptional commitment to serving humanity.

The function took place at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala.

While receiving the relief food items this morning, Aber lauded the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the cordial bilateral relations between Uganda and Saudi.

Aber said that the relief food items will help the targeted beneficiaries for better livelihoods explaining that Uganda hosts an estimated 1.7m Refugees currently.

The Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Uganda His Excellency Mohammed Bin Khalil Faroudah said that this donation is in support of Uganda in its noble cause of hosting Refugees.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia H.E Mohammed Bin Khalil Faroudah joined by the for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees State Minister Lillian Aber to flag off the distribution of the relief food items.

Dunstan Balaba, the Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister, assured the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that the relief items will immediately be delivered to the beneficiaries.

Each of the 12,700 food boxes contains 10kgs of maize flour, 5kgs of Sugar, 5kgs of Rice, 4Kgs of beans, 1 kg of salt and two liters of vegetable cooking oil.

Uganda and the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enjoy cordial relations that continue to grow for the benefit of both sister countries.
