The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja was part of the congregation that attended the scientific ordination of two Priests and seven Deacons, at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Cathedral in Kasana-Luwero Diocese.
The ordination ceremony was presided over by the Bishop of Kasana-Luwero Diocese Paul Ssemogerere. He appreciated the Prime Minister’s intervention that enabled the function to take place in a scientific way. Last year, the Diocese was not able to hold any ordination ceremony because of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. He pledged the Church’s commitment to observe the Standard Operating Procedures while conducting emerging church business. He then requested Government to reconsider the earlier directive and allow churches to operate.
The Premier congratulated the ordained Priests and Deacons and hailed the Church for their involvement in national development. She implored the Church to be patient until such a time when the COVID-19 situation settles. ‘Government is continuously procuring more vaccines to ensure that more people are vaccinated,’ she said.
The Prime Minister handed over ten million shillings (10M) to Bishop Paul Ssemogerere donated by President Museveni, to facilitate the development effort in Kasana-Luwero Diocese. She also gave a token of appreciation to the newly ordained Priests and Deacons to enable them start their new roles.
The ceremony was attended by the State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. J.C Muyingo and State Minister for Luwero Triangle, Hon. Alice Kaboyo. END
