The Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has been nominated for yet another prestigious Africa Continental Award.
Nabbanja who is also the Kakumiro Woman Member of Parliament has been selected by the UK based Non-Governmental Organization ‘The African Leadership organization’ to compete with three others for the African Female Leader of the year 2024 award.
The African leadership organization who are the publishers of the African Leadership Magazine on 4th December 2024 wrote to the Prime Minister notifying her about her nomination.
“On behalf of the board, the publisher and Executive Chairman of the African Leadership Organization, Dr. Ken Giami, we are pleased to officially notify you of your nomination for the African Female Leader of the Year, a category of the 14th African Leadership Magazine persons of the year Awards 2024,” the letter reads in part.
Dr. Giami said that Nabbanja was nominated by the board and engaged cross-section of leaders, stakeholders and followers who enthusiastically responded to their call.
She has been nominated to compete with three others, who include Antoinette Sayeh, the Deputy Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Helen Oritsejafor, a Nigerian Philanthropist and Businesswoman and Patricia Obo- Nai, CEO Telecel Ghana.
Her nomination in the category of the African Female Leader of the Year in recognition of her leadership as Prime Minister of Uganda for her commitment towards driving the Country’s socio- economic development and advancing key national priorities.
“Under your guidance as Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Uganda has made significant strides towards achieving its 2040 Vision, with particular focus on public service reforms, gender equality, and economic empowerment,” he noted. He added that, “your proactive approach to addressing National Challenges, including COVID-19 has positioned you as a key figure in shaping Uganda’s political and economic landscape”.
They also noted that Nabbanja’s tireless efforts to empower women and champion sustainable development make her a highly deserving nominee for recognition as an African leader in governance and development.
The African Female Leader of the year Award is open to an African woman who has defied the odds and risen above the patriarchal systems in the continent to positively affect the continent or influence women to aspire for Excellence in various fields.
What it takes for her to emerge as winner
For her to emerge winner, online voting has commenced and will close at Mid night on Thursday, 12th December 2024. Ugandans are now required to cast their vote by clicking on https//www.
The ceremony is scheduled for 27- 28 February 2025 in Casablanca Morocco under the theme: “Inclusive Leadership for an interconnected Africa: New paradigms for future realities,”
This prestigious continental award was previously won by President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AFDB), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Director General WHO, Sudanese Businessman Mo Ibrahim, Founder of the Ibrahim Prize for leadership among others.
The event has also become a prestigious platform for honoring people-centered leadership and Africans who are pursuing a Pan African agenda.
In September this year, Nabbanja scooped the Global Women Leadership Award in New York. The Global Women Leadership Award is an annual award conferred by the Centre of Economic and Leadership Development based in the United Kingdom.
Nabbanja who is also the first female Prime Minister of Uganda previously worked as the Minister of State for Health, General Duties in the Ministry of Health from December 2019 to June 2021.
She also served as a Parliamentary Commissioner in the Parliamentary Commission of the Parliament of Uganda from 2016 to December 2019, and as a Resident District Commissioner in Busia, Budaka and Palisa Districts from 2001 to 2010.
Nabbanja Robinah holds a Master of Arts Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation from Nkumba University in Uganda, a Bachelor’s Degree in Democracy and Development Studies, and a Diploma in Democracy and Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs’ University. She is currently pursuing her PhD Studies.
