President Yoweri Museveni has urged mothers in the country to continue nurturing children by instilling in them values so that they become patriotic Ugandans.

“I also encourage you to continue nurturing your children by instilling in them values that will enable them to become patriotic Ugandans. Teach them the value of being hardworking, honest and trustworthy to enable Uganda to be corruption free,” said Museveni.

This was contained in the President’s message delivered for him by the Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah the Prime Minister of Uganda at the closure of the Buganda Annual Mother’s Union conference held at Kabulasoke Primary Teachers College in Gomba District.

The mothers under the Mothers Union of the Anglican Church held a three-day conference under the theme “Being a woman of value”.

“I hail the organisers for choosing such a relevant theme; ‘Being a woman of value’. I am optimistic that deliberations from this discussion will greatly alter the mind-set and way of life of many women,” noted Museveni.

The annual conference attracted 600 women from the seven dioceses in Buganda Region to share ideas on how to improve their lives and strengthen their spiritual growth.

The President said the NRM government had prioritized the empowerment of women initiatives in order to boost their business growth.

“The NRM government recognises the significant contribution of women in the development of our nation. For that reason, we have prioritized women empowerment and diversification of women entrepreneurship sources by establishing women projects in skilling and boosting their business through the GROW financing initiative,” noted Museveni.

The President donated 500 million shillings seed capital towards the Buganda Mothers Union Cooperative Society Savings, Credit and Cooperative (SACCO) limited to help them improve on their household incomes.

The Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese, Mike Lubowa presided over the service assisted by Bishop Emeritus central Buganda, George Ssenabulya.

Bishop Lubowa asked Ugandans to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni for the continuity of development in the country.

The President of the Buganda region Mothers union Josephine Kasaato lauded President Museveni for supporting women emancipation efforts in the country.

“Deliver our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni for empowering women more especially the mothers who are key in the socio-economic transformation of the country,” said Kasaato.

She promised to ensure that the money is put to proper use by the mothers to have a multiplier effect.
