GOMBA
President Yoweri Museveni has challenged the people in Greater Mpigi and Gomba District in particular to transition from subsistence farming to the modern money economy.
“If you want to build prosperous and stable homes, you must transition from subsistence farming to the modern money economy. Government has put in place the necessary conditions to ensure the profitability of business enterprises. These include: the good roads, electricity, peace and security; integration of the Ugandan market to the regional, African and international markets; pursuing policies that favour the private sector,” noted the president.

The President’s message was delivered by the Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah, the Prime Minister of Uganda who represented him at the official opening of the Gomba NRM House in Maddu Town Council Gomba District.
Approximately 33% of Ugandans are estimated to be outside the money economy. This is down from 39% in 2019/2020. The majority of those outside the money economy are involved in agriculture, primarily subsistence farming.
“The message of the NRM is that every household must select an economic enterprise in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, ICT and Services. This will enable the households to become creators of wealth and jobs. Currently, we still have 33% of the homesteads outside the money economy. They are in the subsistence economy of working only for food. How can one expect to take their children to school or buy medicine and clothes for them, if they have no money?” asked the President.
He, however, said that these economic advantages that the NRM has created, should be turned into jobs and wealth for the households, in order for this development to be meaningful.
“The Parish Development Model and the other wealth funds are aimed at increasing the number of wealth creators engaged in production, in the four sectors of: commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT,” he emphasized.
The President lauded the people of Maddu Gomba for acquiring the NRM House.

“I want to congratulate you all upon the Official Opening of the NRM offices, in Maddu-Gomba District. I congratulate our leaders, mobilisers and supporters, upon this significant milestone. In a special way, I wish to thank the family of our elder, Mzee Mishaki Sabiiti, for making a significant contribution to the construction and completion of the NRM Offices. I commend you for showing such unwavering support for the NRM Party,” said the President.
Museveni said that since 1986, the NRM has been at the forefront of defending the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Africa.
“The NRM has been like a political doctor trying to solve the problems of Uganda. In order to treat a disease, you must first of all conduct a diagnosis. Once you have correctly diagnosed the patient, then you can make the prescription. If the diagnosis is wrong, the prescription cannot be right and if the prescription is not right the patient cannot be cured,” noted the president.
He said that through the NRM diagnosis, ten(10) bottlenecks to Uganda’s development were identified that inlcude Ideological disorientation; a weak State, especially the Army; Under-developed infrastructure ( i.e. the railways, the roads, the electricity, the telephones, piped water, etc.) and the underdevelopment of the Human Resource.
The Head of State said that after many years of struggle (peaceful and armed) and analysis, the NRM evolved four (4) principles to address the above challenges. These are:
Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic transformation and ensuring the development of democracy that are fundamental in the development of the country.
Ronald Mukimbiri, who funded the construction of the NRM house, lauded President Yoweri Museveni for being an exemplary leader working tirelessly to transform the country.
“We are blessed to have a leader like H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who has worked for the transformation of this country,” said Mukimbiri.
At the function, over 100 members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) citing the good and focused leadership of President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government, crossed to the NRM.
