Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on Wednesday led a team of government officials on an inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects in Kampala.
The team included the Minister of State for Works and Transport, Hon. Some of the projects inspected included Port Bell Road, Spring Road, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Streets, Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kyebando Ring Road, and Sentema Road.
During the tour, the Prime Minister expressed concerns about the quality of work on these road projects. She directed engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to ensure the contractors deliver quality work.
“The government pays contractors big sums to deliver quality work, and our engineers in the Ministry of Works and Transport and KCCA are supposed to supervise these projects to ensure value for money,” Nabbanja said.
Minister Ecweru and KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki assured the Prime Minister that the Ministry and KCCA would jointly monitor the projects to guarantee value for money.
“All the issues identified during this tour shall be rectified immediately,” Ecweru said.
Ms. Mwesiga encouraged all civil servants to actively supervise government projects. “Government is investing billions in infrastructure development, and this money should not be wasted,” she said.
