The Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Madam Lucy Nakyobe has noted that the strength of government coordination largely determines the effectiveness with which the national priorities are regulated and the extent to which public services can reach the citizens of Uganda.

Madam Nakyobe made the remarks during the orientation meeting for the new Permanent Secretary in charge of Coordination in the in the Office of the Deputy Head of Public Service, Performance Management and Service Delivery. The meeting was held at the Office of the President Conference Hall on Tuesday and was attended by the Staff of the Office of the Prime Minister.

In her address, Nakyobe highlighted that the new Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nkeramihigo Julius Victor, was appointed by His Excellency, the President to be in charge of Policy Coordination across Public Service.

She mentioned that Mr. Nkeramihigo will oversee the coordination of government policies and programmes and will be supervised by the Deputy Head of Public Service, while the current Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Kakooza Alex will remain the overall Accounting Officer and will also be responsible for implementing the Social Action and Development programmes.

Madam Nakyobe called for support for the new Permanent Secretary in his assignment.

The Deputy Head of Public Service, Madam Jane Kyarisiima appreciated the additional support, and said that the new office of the Permanent Secretary will enable the institution of Public Service to make great strides and deliver as expected.

The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Kakooza Alex said he was optimistic that the new office of the Permanent Secretary in charge of Coordination will improve the performance of Government.

Mr. Nkeramihigo, the new Permanent Secretary, pledged to head the team of Strategic Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as other officials attached to the Coordination function effectively, with aim to ensure that the entire public service delivers quality services and implements sustainable national development programmes for the good of the Country.

Nkeramihigo also thanked the President for entrusting him with the role of coordinating government policies and programmes.
