During the meeting, Mr. Mkambula Penjalani, the Chief Technical Officer at GAIN in charge of global programming, said GAIN looks forward to intensifying its interventions in Uganda’s Nutrition Sector through closing the existing gaps.

“As GAIN, we would like to know what is the business case for Uganda in terms of this partnership? What areas in food systems and other sectors can GAIN support? This is because GAIN desires to grow its engagements and establish a long lasting partnership with Uganda,” Mkambula said.

The Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Coordination, Mr. Mulengani Moses, who was representing the Chairperson for the OPM-NCC, commended GAIN Uganda for the support it renders to the OPM Nutrition Coordination Committee.

He highlighted that the OPM-NCC is currently working on analysing the existing gaps in the area of food systems, and aligning its plan with the nutrition indicators set in the forthcoming National Development Plan (IV) which will run for the next 5 years.

“In the next meeting, the OPM-NCC will present the food systems dash-board and examine the priority areas for support in Uganda, which data will be critical for GAIN in regard to its partnership with Uganda,” Mulengani said.

The OPM-NCC has been working with GAIN Uganda since June 2024, and a Memorandum of Understanding is yet to be formally signed.
