Following the release of the March–April–May 2026 seasonal rainfall outlook by the Ministry of Water and Environment recently, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has released a press statement highlighting the potential disaster risks associated with this forecast and measures being undertaken to mitigate their impact.
The forecast shows that most parts of Uganda are expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the country’s first rainy season of the year. In a statement signed by the Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hilary Onek, the OPM encourages the public to take advantage of the anticipated rains by maximising water harvesting and increasing food production as coping strategies during the dry season and periods of scarcity.
