KAKUMIRO

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has swept all the parliamentary seats in Kakumiro District with president Yoweri Museveni scoring 91.2%.

According to the Kakumiro District Returning Officer, Honest Baguma, a total of 120,427 valid votes were counted, with President Museveni obtaining 109,927 votes, representing 91.28%. Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity platform scored 9260 votes representing 7.6%.

While declaring the winners, Baguma described the election as peaceful and commended the people of Kakumiro for being peaceful.

“We didn’t register any issues during and after the elections and I want to thank the people of Kakumiro for exercising their right peacefully,” said Baguma.

Nabbanja while addressing the press soon after being declared winner said that the people of Kakumiro have voted for peace, stability and development.

“I’m happy that the people of Kakumiro have overwhelmingly voted for the NRM candidates which is a clear indicator of trust they have in government,” said Nabbanja.

Fred Byamukama, the state minister for transport, who is also the Kakumiro NRM chairperson, appealed to the people of Kakumiro to remain united and focused to develop the district and the country in general.

“I want to thank all the people of Kakumiro for exhibiting maturity and voting NRM and let us remain united so that we can serve the people. People have voted for NRM because they have money in their pockets as a result of the government interventions aimed at wealth creation,” said Byamukama.

The other winners are Prof. Willy Lubega for Bugangaizi South and Onesmus Twinasiko from Bugangaizi East.
