President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launded the Chinese government for aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040 strategy through continued partnership and investment in industrial zones which are cornerstones in the country’s ambition to transition into a middle-income economy.
The President said that industrial parks drive value addition, promote exports, and reducie reliance on imports. His remarks were delivered by Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of Uganda during the closing ceremony of the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park Trade Fair and Bazaar.
“This event is an important milestone in advancing our National strategy of Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) and promoting local production and trade partnerships.
The Sino-Uganda Industrial Parks initiative is not only fostering local manufacturing and industrialization but also creating opportunities for employment and technology transfer. I am pleased to note that Mbale Industrial Park alone has already generated over 15,000 jobs and will continue to impact our economy positively.”
The President reiterated that the BUBU policy is cornerstone to Uganda’s vision to create jobs, empower local enterprises, and promote economic self-reliance. He said that events like the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park Trade Fair and Bazaar provide a platform for local businesses to exhibit their products, engage with consumers, and build critical partnerships that strengthen Uganda’s competitiveness both domestically and globally.
“Through efforts like BUBU, we are encouraging every Ugandan to buy and promote locally produced goods. When we choose to purchase Ugandan-made products, we support job creation, reduce the import burden, and ensure the sustainable growth of our economy,” he added.
Museveni encouraged local entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities presented by industrial parks to scale up their businesses and engage in joint ventures with international partners.
“The government will continue to support businesses through initiatives such as tax incentives, affordable credit through the Uganda Development Bank, and infrastructure development. Furthermore, industrial parks like this will play a pivotal role in implementing the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) policy, which prioritizes local content and strengthens our manufacturing base.”
He rallied Ugandans to embrace the BUBU spirit by supporting local businesses, forging new partnerships, and working towards a self-reliant and prosperous Uganda.
“I want to assure all stakeholders that the Government of Uganda remains committed to creating a conducive business environment, fostering industrialization, and strengthening collaboration with our development partners.”
Rt. Hon. Nabbanja was accompanied by the State Minister for Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Namboozo Florence, Hon. Sidronius Okaasai Opolot the Minister of State for Energy, area MPs and local leaders.
