ADJUMANI
Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness & Refugees, Hilary Onek, on Saturday November 23rd, 2024 conducted a Sensitization meeting in Adjumani for District Local Government and Refugee leaders on Govt programmes for refugees & their host communities, focusing on peaceful co-existence.
The Minister called on both the elected local government leaders, and the leaders of the refugees, to deliberately promote peaceful co-existence despite the funding gaps towards welfare of refugees. He cited the major current challenges being limited resources and the reduction in food aid and cash grants.
The Minister also separately met leaders of the Madi and Acholi communities and called on them to unite despite their divisions over the Apaa land. He cautioned them against politically driven Conflicts.
Onek appealed to the two neighboring communities to safeguard their long-standing peaceful co-existence. This meeting took place at the Adjumani District Headquarters in Aulogo II.
The Adjumani District LC5 Chairperson Ben Anyama, reported a return to relative peace in Apaa and a significant reduction in commercial charcoal production.
