NAKASEKE
The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked road contractors in the country to always involve the local people so that they can own these projects.
The residents in the area have complained that the companies contracted to work on the roads are not involving the local people.
The people of Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Luwero have been complaining of poor roads in the area which prompted the Prime Minister to carry out an on spot inspection of works.
Nabbanja who was accompanied by the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba made the remarks while inspecting the progress of works on road projects in the districts connecting the districts of Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Luwero.
She said that the NRM government was committed to serve the people in the country by ensuring accessibility so that farmers can sell their products.
“The NRM government wants to ensure that our people get connected to markets so that they can sell their products at higher prices so as to improve on household incomes,” said Nabbanja.
She said that government is committed to work on all roads so that they are motorable for easy accessibility.
Allen Kagina, the Executive Director Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) says that the specific objective is to increase the access to modern facilities and work opportunities in Nakaseke, Luwero and Nakasongola districts.
“UNRA aims to improve access to goods/passenger transport services and reduce transport costs, improve access to social and economic development opportunities and also ensure no roadside communities become worse off as a result of the road upgrading works,” said Kagina.
The residents appealed to UNRA to allow them use the bridge at Lugogo that is under construction but Kagina clarified that it’s risky when it is still under construction.
But Kagina clarified that the bridge under construction is risky to open to the public and asked them to wait until when it is deemed safe.
The roads that are under construction are the Luwero-Butalangu, Luwero-Kiwoko-Butalangu, Butalangu-Ngoma, Ngoma-Bulyamusenyu, Ngoma Kasozi-Kyamukonda-Lugogo swamp where a multi-billion bridge is being constructed to connect the Hoima road to Gulu Highway for easy access.
