Following disbursement of the second tranche of payment for the construction works at the OPM Stores in Namanve, the UPDF Engineering Brigade resumed works.
During the inspection of works exercise conducted by the Contract Management Team on Tuesday 17th, December 2024, it was noted that the Engineering Brigade had constructed the base for placement of one of the containers to be fabricated to provide office space and extra storage space as well as commencement of the construction of the Security Guard House. One container had already been placed on the base constructed and the foundation of the base for the second construction had been dug.
During the meeting with the Engineer on site Maj. Eng. George Ogwang, the Engineering Brigade committed to complete the placement and fabrication of both containers within two weeks. It was noted that there was space available on the base that could be utilised other purposes.
The Principal Systems Administrator, Mr. Robert Lwasa who chaired the meeting asked the Engineering
Brigade to provide the accountability for the 1st tranche of payment while the Principal Assistant Secretary, Ms. Susan Akuma requested the Engineer to provide guidance on how the additional tranche would be utilised considering the BOQs.
It was agreed that considering the need to commence works on the main structure of the store, upon completion of the ongoing works on the containers and the guard house, works would commence on the main structure. This is expected to commence on 1st January 2025.
When the works begin on the main structure, the items that shall still be in the store shall be kept in the containers to allow work to proceed without interruptions.
