KIKUUBE
The Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Jennifer Namuyangu Kacha has asked residents in Kikuube district to protect Bugoma Central Forest Reserve against encroachers.
Namuyangu, who toured the forest last month, said illegal activities such as cutting trees, represent a serious threat to this resource.
In a meeting attended by the Resident District Commissioner, Amlan Tumusiime and the sector manager for the National Forestry Authority in the area, Alex Obonyo, Namuyangu asked the leaders to work together to eliminate the threats against Bugoma forest.
The Minister expressed concern over the level of degradation and forest cover loss in the country. This, she said, will worsen the climate change effects. It is estimated that Uganda loses 120,000 hectares of forests each year.
Namuyangu said that Government through the Office of the Prime Minister, was committed to working with Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and all local leaders to conserve Bugoma for the current and future generations. Bugoma is home to many animals, plant and bird species.
