She delivered warm greetings from H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) noting that he loved the people and wished them successful Tarehe Sita activities.

Nabbanja said that Tarehe Sita was not a mere day but a reflection of the braveness and patriotism of the gallant soldiers.

“We remember the 6th of February 1981 with pride and a renewed commitment to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Uganda. Tarehe Sita is not just a date on our calendar.  It is a reminder of the resilience that built the UPDF, the patriotism that restored stability, the unity that continues to secure our nation, and the partnership between the army and the people of Uganda, which remains the foundation of our national progress,” observed Nabbanja.

She said that Ugandans were now united from North to South, East to West including in Kisoro, at the border of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC.

“We thank H.E Gen Yoweri K Museveni and our gallant sons and daughters of UPDF and other security forces for keeping us united and securing our borders. As you are aware, the UPDF has grown from a small group of committed patriots into one of the most respected defence forces on the African continent – professional, disciplined, and dedicated to the well-being of the people of Uganda,” Nabbanja noted.

Nabbanja further lauded the people of Kisoro for their hospitality, cooperation, and unwavering support to the UPDF adding that the region had a long history of patriotism and contributions to national security.

“On behalf of the NRM Government, I reaffirm our commitment to improving infrastructure, service delivery, and economic opportunities in this region so that Kisoro continues to thrive,” she said.

The Premier assured the people of Kisoro that the process of upgrading the following Tourism roads to tarmac was ongoing; Kisoro-Rubuguri-Katojo, Rubuguri – Nteko – Buhoma, Kisoro – Mugahinga (works ongoing) as well as upgrading Kisoro Airfield to a National Airport.

The State Minister for Defence in charge of Veterans Affairs Huda Olero Aberson, who represented the Minister of Defence, said that Kigezi was selected due to several historical factors.

The Deputy CDF Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding assured Ugandans that the UPDF was determined to protect the gains of the country.

The theme for this year’s Tarehe Sita is “Defending the gains of the revolution and honouring the sacrifices of the freedom fighters: A call for national unity, peace and socio-economic transformation.”

Uganda remembers the 6th of February 1981 when the first bullet was shot in the liberation struggle that saw a renewed commitment to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Uganda.

The launch of the Regional Tarehe Sita earmarks the beginning of the several activities to be implemented by the UPDF in Kigezi sub region which include construction of schools, health facilities, free medical services among others.

The activities will run until the 6th of February 2026 when the climax will be celebrated in Kisoro.
