NAKASEKE

The State Minister for the Luwero Triangle, Hon Alice Kaboyo, has commissioned several houses constructed for the families of deceased veterans. On 9 July 2025, she commissioned a newly built house for the family of the late Dodoviko Kintu Galimpitawa in Migingye, Semuto, Nakaseke District.

This marks the sixth residential house constructed in recognition of civilian contributions to the National Resistance Army (NRA) liberation struggle. The house includes three bedrooms, a kitchen, a store, a water tank, a two-stance pit latrine, and is fully equipped with solar power, ensuring both comfort and sustainability for the beneficiary household.

While commissioning the house, Hon. Kaboyo congratulated the family on receiving the long-awaited reward and acknowledged that it had arrived later than expected. She pledged, on behalf of the President, that as long as the NRM government remains in power, it will fulfill all promises made to those who fought for the good of the country.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to providing essential services to veteran communities. These include electricity and water supply in the area, as well as increased investment in Entebbe Grade B Hospital to improve medical care for veterans. She mentioned that the government is currently seeking recommendation letters through the Office of the President to facilitate access to the hospital for veterans in need.

She called on families of veterans who have not yet received their Akasiimo (appreciation token) to obtain recommendation letters so they can be considered for inclusion. She emphasized that the President is tired of receiving reports about veterans who remain unrewarded and is determined to resolve the issue.

Hon. Kaboyo pledged to address the issue of iron sheets for both the school and the newly constructed hospital building in the area. She also acknowledged that although current funds from the Grow Money initiative remain insufficient, the President has promised to increase allocations to help fight poverty collectively across the country.

She further announced that the President had committed to paying school fees for all children to ensure access to education. However, she cautioned parents who keep their children at home despite the removal of financial barriers. She warned that those who fail to provide basic necessities for their children after receiving support from the Parish Development Model (PDM) will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Minister urged the people of Luwero not to be misled by opposition groups such as the National Unity Platform (NUP), stating that such parties have hidden agendas. She promised to reward the people of Luwero if they support and vote for NRM candidates in the 2026 elections.

Nalongo Najjuma Sarah, the Woman Member of Parliament for Luwero, commended the Minister for maintaining close engagement with the people and expressed gratitude for her efforts in rewarding veterans with houses.

She informed the Minister that electricity promised in Kisega Parish has not yet been delivered. As a result, public dissatisfaction is growing, with residents losing faith in their leaders and feeling unsafe moving freely in the area. She appealed to the Minister to raise the issue with the President so it can be resolved before the 2026 elections, in order to restore public confidence and protect the President’s support base.

MP Najjuma also recalled that during his recent visit, the President pledged to work on the development of the Lugogo swamp to establish a reliable connection between Luwero and Nakaseke. She said this would enable residents of Nakaseeta Parish to access health and social services more easily.

She requested that the Minister contributes cement and iron sheets toward the repair of Kikondo Secondary School. She also asked for support toward the building under construction in Bulwadda, which is being developed through community efforts to serve as a local hospital.

She advised residents to remain patient as they wait for the fulfillment of the President’s pledge to extend electricity to Nakaseke and surrounding areas, noting that the necessary documents had already been submitted. She also praised Dr. Sengonzi Damulira from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development for assisting them in securing government funds to support community development efforts.

Speaking on behalf of the Veterans Committee Chairman, Haji Maj. Sula Serunjogi thanked the Minister for honoring the late Dodoviko’s family with a house. He requested that future projects also recognize the families of the late Kirabira from Kyamutakasa and Kakonge, both of whom were among the region’s earliest political leaders.

However, he raised concern over the loss of veteran lives due to poor health, often resulting from an inability to afford medical treatment. He appealed to the Minister to forward their request for increased medical support to the President so that veterans can access the healthcare they need and deserve.

The project was fully funded by the Office of the Prime Minister through the Ministry of Luwero-Rwenzori Triangle. Construction was carried out by NEC under the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), as part of a national effort to uplift the welfare of veteran families.
