Nakasongola District Local Government has been cautioned against misuse of public funds and mismanagement of relief items meant for Lake Kyoga flood victims. The Prime Minister of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja instructed the Nakasongola Chief Administrative Officer not to over delegate duties and ensure rational use of the available resources.

Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja last weekend visited Nakasongola District to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods by Lake Kyoga. As a follow up on her visit, the Premier held a multi-sectoral meeting to strategize on how to solve issues of the displaced persons. The meeting included area MP’s and Nakasongola District Local Government leadership. The meeting took place at her office in Kampala.

She said an impact assessment should be undertaken to establish what has been done with the money sent to the district for road maintenance. She particularly expressed concern about the failure by a contractor to complete construction of a bridge and yet all the contract sum had been paid.

The Minister of State for Works Hon. Musa Ecweru was tasked to visit construction works on the bridge connecting Kayunga and Nakasongola, to assess the performance of the contractor who has failed to complete the work on schedule.

He stressed the need for the Chief Administrative Officer to do frequent road construction site visits, before conducting meetings with the District Road Fund Committee.

The Nakasongola district LCV Chairperson Sam Kigula presented a detailed status report about the district and proposals on how to solve emerging challenges.     END.
