LUWERO

The Minister of State for Luwero-Rwenzori Hon. Alice Kaboyo over the weekend pitched camp in Luwero District to launch several community-focused initiatives. She distributed livestock to 30 families in Kikyuusa, with 15 families receiving a cow each and the other 15 getting a total of 75 goats. This project, supported by Kuwait-based non-governmental organization Direct Aid Society, aims to boost household income and improve livelihoods.

“I am happy for the people of Kikyuusa. The government wants us to chase poverty from our homes. If you get five goats, this is a huge advantage,” she said.

Kaboyo emphasized the importance of transparency and responsibility in managing this investment, announcing a monitoring committee to oversee the welfare of the animals. Direct Aid Society has been active in Uganda since 1988, providing services like orphan care, education, and emergency relief.

The Minister also addressed concerns over increasing thefts of livestock and coffee, with Luwero District Resident Commissioner Bwabaye Richard vowing to combat this by denying bail to offenders until after Christmas.

During her visit, Kaboyo launched the distribution of 1,450 iron sheets to support markets, health centers, and local schools. She encouraged vendors to make the most of government resources like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga funds.

– Livestock Distribution: 30 families received livestock to boost household income

– Iron Sheet Distribution: 1,450 iron sheets for markets, health centers, and schools
