Government to consider inclusion of Bundibugyo District among those under the Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (DRDIP) due to the high refugee influx from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This move has been proposed by the Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Minister Hon. Eng. Hillary Onek who expressed the need to elevate the District hospital to Regional Referral status and Bubukwanga Health Centre III to hospital status.
Minister Hillary Onek has directed security to screen all people claiming to be returnees from Congo to trace their roots and be reunited with their families as the discussion on whether some of the internally displaced people in Ntoroko District can be resettled on part of Semliki National Park land.
The Minister also called on people residing on the steep slopes of Mt. Rwenzori to relocate to low land areas to avoid being killed by landslides. He advised the district leaders to mobilise the community to plant trees on the slopes.
The Ag. Commissioner for Disaster Preparedness and Management, Ms. Rose Nakabugo echoed governments’ plans to strengthen Local Governments in disaster response. END
