KAMPALA

Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah met leaders from Greater Luwero and asked them to embrace the campaign of farmer mobilisation as a continuation of the President’s wealth creation campaign done at regional level.

The Prime Minister Nabbanja said that His Excellency the President wrote to her on May 31, 2022, outlining six policy proposals that should be pursued to develop our agricultural sector.

The six policy proposals were Production, multiplication, distribution, and certification of seeds and stocking materials, Disease control, Agricultural Mechanisation and irrigation and Farmer education and mobilisation.

The others were Partnerships with big land owners and Interventions in the fisheries sector.

Nabbanja while meeting local leaders from the Districts of Nakasongola, Luwero and Nakaseke was told that the government needed to initiate a Special Programme that would address the concerns of Luwero like it was with Northern Uganda.

Omulangira Ronald Ndawula and Noah Wanzala Mutebi, the Nakasongola Member of Parliament at different venues, asked the Central Government to initiate a special program like NUSAF in Northern Uganda that would deal with the issues affecting the people of Luwero.

Nabbanja appealed to local leaders in the three districts to ensure that they moved in unison to promote the President’s policy proposals for social and economic transformation.

She wondered what could have gone wrong with Luwero because in the late 1990s it was an area of focus with many farmers flocking to the area to learn modern farming.  Nabbanja challenged the local leaders to stop complaining all the time when given the opportunity to serve the country in whatever capacity.

Nabbanja cautioned the people of Luwero to stop voting under the influence of anger because they were the losers in the end.

The leaders who included LC V Chairpersons for Nakasongola and Nakaseke lauded the NRM government for serving the people in their areas.

Lt. (Rtd) Sam Kigula, the LC V Chairperson for Nakasongola District said that there was no reason whatsoever for the Baruli not to rally behind the NRM government.

Rose Namayanja, the Deputy Secretary General of the NRM asked leaders to mobilise all those eligible to benefit from PDM to embrace the flagship program to enter the money economy.

Leaders in the District of Nakasongola, Luwero and Nakaseke welcomed the idea and promised to support the intervention for the good of the farmers.

The farmer education, mobilisation, value addition and service delivery campaign will be held from the 1st to 3rd of September 2023 starting with Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Luwero respectively.

The agri-business shows will bring together small-holder farmers, large-scale farmers, farmer associations, agricultural researchers, and agri-business companies to exchange ideas on how best to improve production, productivity and profitability.

The Minister for Public Service Muruli Mukasa, the Vice chairperson NRM in charge Central region Kiwanda Ssuubi and some Members of Parliament graced the meetings.
