Members of parliament from Mubende district have expressed concern over the re-emerging trend of land evictions in their area.
Hajji Bashir Lubega, the Mubende municipality legislator and Granier Nakazibwe, the Mubende district woman Member of Parliament say that the residents are now getting worried of eviction after some absentee landlords emerged with land titles.
The members of parliament raised the concerns during various fundraising functions in the district graced by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.
“Some people have started showing up with Mailo land certificates of land title threatening to evict our people. Government should come immediately to rescue the situation,” said Lubega.
Lubega says that the Boda boda cyclists are facing a serious problem from some money lending organizations that overcharge them and in the end impound the motorcycles even when they are demanded as little as sh500,000.
“Some organizations are fleecing our people by extending loans for Boda boda but highly priced and when the youth fails to raise the balance they impound the motorcycle,” said Lubega.
Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister while responding to issues raised by the legislators says that the government is coming up with the Parish Development Model to provide resources at the parish so that middle men who have been fleecing the unsuspecting members of the public are eliminated.
“This Parish Development Model is a well thought programme to help our people acquire financial support so that they can move into the money economy,” said Nabbanja.
Nabbanja cautioned Ugandans against taking for granted the peace and development in the country because some countries are unstable because of mistakes they made in choosing leaders.
The Prime Minister Nabbanja supported financially, development projects of the Anglicans in Mubende district with over sh30m.
