ISINGIRO
The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Alex Kakooza has today successfully conducted a working visit to Isingiro District to support the Refugee Response programme.
He was accompanied by the Commissioner Refugees, Mr.Patrick Okello and technical staff of the Department of Refugees, the area Member of Parliament, Hon.Nathan Byanyima, the political and technical leadership of the District led by the CAO, RDC and LC V representatives.
The PS had an entry meeting with the staff of OPM Refugee Desk Mbarara before proceeding to Isingiro District Headquarters for meetings with the LCV, RDC and CAO.
In all the meetings, the PS thanked the District authorities for supporting OPM in managing the Refugee function over the years. He pledged continued support towards the District amidst challenges currently being faced such as the settling of new arrivals currently being received from DRC.
The PS also held a community dialogue meeting in Nakivale Refugee Settlement with the Host Communities aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence between refugees and the nationals.
The Commissioner Refugees pledged to follow up the implementation of the guidance by H.E President to have Refugee Settlements as centers for agricultural production.
