The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has received an award from Mama’s Club Uganda in recognition of his support and work of championing the involvement of men in accessing HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health services.

The Premier received the award from the Executive Director of Mama’s Club Uganda Dr Lydia Mungherera who was accompanied by officials of Mama’s Club Uganda and UNAIDS at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday.

Dr Rugunda while receiving the award commended Mama’s Club Uganda for its tremendous work of enabling the male to play their rightful role in society by ensuring that they get involved in accessing health care.

He said Mama’s Club Uganda’s work complements the work of government and pledged continuous support to the Club’s activities.

The Premier has been at the fore front of advocating for greater involvement of men in accessing health care services especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS

“Whereas the girls and the women are actively involved in the works and activities of combating the spread of HIV and other diseases, the boys and men are constantly left out and disengaged regarding these issues that surround HIV related diseases which not only creates a gap in access to health services but also makes the country lag behind in achieving the UN global health targets,” said Dr Mungherera.

Dr Rugunda and Mama’s Club Uganda officials commended the first Lady Janet Museveni for her role in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS through the mother- to- child transmission elimination campaign that has made Uganda to be one of the best countries in Africa regarding the campaign.

During the meeting, the architectural plan of the East African Masculinity centre of excellence to be established by the Club was also presented to the Prime Minister.
