Muni Public University has passed out 77 graduands during the University’s first graduation ceremony at Arua main campus.

44 Students graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in information systems while 33 were awarded Bachelor of Science in information technology degree by the Chancellor Dr Eric Adriko.

President Yoweri Museveni on this occasion was represented by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

During this historic first graduation of Muni University which started four years ago, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Christine Dranzoa was also installed.

President Yoweri Museveni in a speech read for him by the Prime Minister Dr Rugunda congratulated the graduands, their parents and guardians as well as the University upon this milestone

“The NRM Government has over the years, made major strategic decisions in the field of education and Muni University is one of our four landmark success stories especially in the West Nile region,” said the President.

He said the establishment of Muni University was made possible out of concerted and visionary efforts of elders from West Nile region who brought up the proposal to open a public university.

President Museveni noted that it was pleasing to know that 80% of the graduands are already gainfully employed or self-employed hence solving the problem of youth and graduate unemployment.

“To the graduands, the skills you have attained at Muni University shall empower you to make a positive contribution to society and transform you into better citizens,”

The Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Museveni was represented by the Director for higher, technical and vocational education.

In her message, congratulated the University for producing a competitive group of human resource and notably in the field of science and technology.

She also congratulated Prof. Christine Dranzoa upon her installation as vice chancellor.

“Whereas Government appreciates the astronomical growth and equitable access to higher education, Universities should take keen care of the quality and relevance of the programmes offered,” said Mrs Museveni.

Muni University Chancellor Dr Adriko thanked President Museveni for accepting the proposal to create a public University in West Nile. He also thanked the community which donated the land for the establishment of the University

The Chairperson University Council Dr. Johnson Nkuhe, said the University has promoted value for money and has used 13 billion shillings to construct 13 modern buildings at the University.
