The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has launched the COVID-19 Relief fund to support the vulnerable groups of people affected by the country’s second lockdown intended to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The Premier launched the Relief fund at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala on Thursday.
Nabbanja urged the recipients of the aid to use it appropriately and exercise the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures.
“I appeal to the people to use the fund for its intended purpose. You know that COVID-19 is killing us, please continue exercising the SOPs,” Nabbanja said.
The Premier also thanked the President for his directive to support the vulnerable groups of people during the COVID-19 period of lockdown. She said the bank and telecom companies will not levy charges on the aid.
The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi said that the ministry is still updating the data of some individuals, adding that only those identified as part of the vulnerable groups will receive the aid.
The event was also attended by the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Gen. Moses Ali, other ministers and government officials.
