The 1st Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Gen Moses Ali has assured refugees and the rest of the world that Uganda will maintain its ‘Open Door Policy’ for refugees as a way of commitment to humanitarian and peaceful living across the globe.

General Moses Ali made the remarks during the celebrations of the World Refugee Day held in Bidibidi Refugee Camp in Yumbe District on 20th June 2019.

He added that the government remains committed to receiving more refugees fleeing persecution despite the current concerns of diseases and environmental degradation.

Gen. Ali, who presided over the celebrations, also implored members of the refugee community in Bidibidi and other settlements to make every effort to protect the environment.

Citing the day’s theme, “Take a Step with Refugees – Protect the Environment”, Gen. Ali called upon refugees the host communities to plant trees to ensure that the environment is adequately conserved and protected.

The function was graced by several local and national leaders, international dignitaries, and representatives of non-governmental organizations, humanitarian agencies.
