The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has on behalf of President Yoweri Museveni officially opened the 16 floor Janani Luwum Church house located on plot 34 Kampala Road in Kampala Capital city.
President Museveni in his speech read by the Prime Minister Dr Rugunda congratulated the Church of Uganda upon the completion of the Church house project.
Construction of Janani Luwum Church house project began in December 2010 and over 60 billion shillings has been spent for this project to be completed.
President Yoweri Museveni in his message delivered by the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda said the Church of Uganda has been a very reliable partner of Government in terms of social services and economic transformation.
Dr Rugunda said Government of Uganda is at the forefront to support investment ventures of this kind, adding that the religious sector has made a lot of progress in as far as construction projects are concerned.
“Persecuting the private sector the engine of growth is why many countries have failed to develop,” Rugunda said adding that a secure environment has enabled this project to be completed and it’s a significant contribution to the economy.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Reverend Stanley Ntagali in his remarks thanked God for his faithfulness during the construction of the Church house. He also thanked Government for support towards the completion of the project.
The Archbishop thanked Government for the peace which has enabled this project to be completed. He thanked his predecessor Retired Archbishop Luke Orombi who initiated a vital partnership with Equity Bank and also oversaw the initial stages of the project.
“This Church house is a peace dividend and a symbol of what can be achieved with unity,” Ntagali said.
He thanked the partners Equity bank for believing and walking together with Church of Uganda.
Equity Bank the financiers of the project were represented by James Mwangi the Chief Executive Officer of Equity Bank who in his own capacity contributed 1 billion shillings towards the Church house project.
Also Present was the Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija, Bishops and Members of the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee and Members of the Board of Director, Church Commissioners Holding Company Limited.
