The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has said Media is a reflection of what happens in society, adding that if the media is destroyed, the society is also destroyed since it losses meaning and direction without the media.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while launching veteran Journalist Drake Sekeba’s book titled “Media Bullets in Uganda” at WBS TV station auditorium in Naguru on Friday.

Dr Rugunda said the NRM government recognises the role played by media, and has continued to support the media to flourish overtime in Uganda.

“NRM respects media and gives it necessary space to enable it to successful do its work,” the Prime Minister said.


Dr Rugunda commended Sekeba for being a consistent and patriotic individual, a character which has made him a role model for the young generation in the journalism industry and in the country.


He also thanked him for the work he has done for the country by promoting journalism, adding that his book will be used as an appropriate piece of literature and reference in the country in terms of supplying knowledge to the people about Uganda.


Drake Sekeba who celebrated 50 years of service in the journalism profession thanked the Prime Minister for his endless efforts and support in his career and acknowledged him as an honest, straightforward and trusted person.

Mr Sekeba clarified that his book highlights the controversies, attacks and counter attacks from government, media and politicians.

The Media Bullets in Uganda is a book centered on the history of the Press and its role in the struggle for the independence of Uganda, abuse of the freedom of the Press by government and members of the Press as well as some tips for journalists.
