BY DOREEN NASASIRA – The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has received a donation of over UGX 24 million from the Permanent Secretaries of Uganda as part of their contribution towards the fight against Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Donation was handed over to the Prime Minister on Friday at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala, by the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Dr. John Mitala who was accompanied by Deborah Katuramu, the Deputy Head of Public service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, and Haji Yunus Kakande who is the Secretary, Office of the President.
The Premier commended the Permanent Secretaries for their generous contribution towards the fight against the pandemic and tasked the public to emulate it.
“On behalf of His Excellency the President, the Government and the country, I thank the Secretary to Cabinet for coordinating the exercise where permanent secretaries have made a voluntary contribution to the struggle against Covid-19 pandemic,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that the Permanent Secretaries have set a good example and demonstrated that the call to fight against the pandemic involves everyone. He also thanked all those who have made contributions in this regard and urged the public to be extra vigilant in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Dr. John Mitala explained that the donation was voluntarily made by the Permanent Secretaries, who also acknowledge the role of the Prime Minister as the Chairperson of the National Task Force and the rest of the team in handling the Pandemic.
The function was also attended by the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Dombo Collins, and other government officials.
