 The Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU), a Government of Uganda Programme, under the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has spearheaded the participation of OPM in this year’s National Day of Physical Activity, held on Sunday 14th July 2019, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

DINU, a European Union funded Project, mobilized other OPM Projects, Programs, Departments, and Units to participate in the activity as a way of promoting physical fitness and health living in OPM.

The Head of Communications at OPM, Mr. Julius Mucunguzi, (Right) together with Communications specialists, Mr. Isaiah Kitimbo and Ms Ndema Bernadette for DINU and NIPN respectively, attending the event in Kololo.

In liaison with the OPM Human Resources Division, DINU also provided dressing material to OPM participants in form of branded T-shirts and Caps, giving the OPM team a uniform and smart outlook.

The DINU National Programme Coordinator, Mr Pius Ongom Okello, who led the Programme team, urged OPM staff to always endeavor to attend such physical health events because they are very helpful to one’s health and therefore work performance.

The event was conducted as part of a public sensitization campaign to drum up support for physical activity, to prevent non-communicable diseases. The festivities were held under the theme ‘My Health, My Responsibility’.

The guest of Honor, H.E The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni walked 5 Kms, starting from Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, through to the Lugogo bypass, and continued through Jinja Road, Wampewo Avenue Round-About and back to Kololo Independence Grounds.

Trekking alongside the Head of State, was Health Minister Ruth Aceng and State Minister for Health (general duties) Sarah Opendi, among other health ministry officials.

Also present were the World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Uganda Dr Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam.
