The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has commended Ugandans who have galvanized efforts to ensure that Operation wealth creation (OWC) initiative is productive and successful in the country.
He said Operation Wealth Creation projects have been crucial in fighting and eliminating poverty in different parts of the country.
The Premier made the remarks at the FACOM farmers tour and exhibition event organized at the FACOM center in Kabuwomero village, Luweero district on Sunday.
The Farming Consult and Management Company (FACOM) is a learning Centre and demonstration farm which offers training services to people on how to improve livelihoods through Agriculture.
Rugunda commended Bishop Joshua Lwere, the general overseer of the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches for collaborating with government and embracing initiatives towards fighting poverty in the country.
Bishop Lwere led a team of Pastors and other Pentecostal Church leaders who participated in the farm tour and exhibition to acquire farming skills.
He said religious leaders who urge citizens to undertake government projects aimed at alleviating poverty, not only empower their followers to be effective leaders but also self-reliant in regard to solving their own problems.
The Premier also noted that Government is ready to support churches to enable them undertake developmental projects for poverty alleviation in the country.
“Government is set to support the Church in its work of defeating poverty. As Government we believe that religious leaders have a lot of influence, networking and impact on the people in regard to the fight against poverty,” Rugunda said.
The Premier also commended Mr. Iga Patrick, the Chief Executive Officer of FACOM for sharing knowledge with citizens on how to eradicate poverty through agriculture.
He said Iga’s demonstration farm offers scientific agricultural farming skills and solutions which are practical.
Rugunda said Uganda is an endowed country with good fertile soils capable of producing highly marketable products which meets international quality standards.
Bishop Lwere thanked Iga for transforming society through his agricultural project and pledged on behalf of the Church and other religious leaders to work with government in the campaign against poverty. Ends. BY DOREEN NASASIRA
