The Premier who is also the Chairman central organizing Committee for Uganda Martyrs day commemoration 2018, made the remarks while presiding over the Children’s Martyrs day event at the Uganda Martyrs Anglican site in Namugongo on Saturday.

Dr Rugunda said Martyrs day is important spiritually for the Church and also the country because the young men and lady who were executed symbolize young people who were principled, had faith and were committed to what they believed in, in- spite of being tortured for 7 days.

He said they faithfully believed in God to the extent of losing their lives.

Rugunda said the Uganda martyrs did not give their lives in vain but their blood and sacrifice helped in spreading the word of God to the whole country and beyond, making Uganda the center of martyrs. He said the Principles and commitments which guided the Uganda martyrs should continue to guide us today.

This year’s Martyrs day celebrations which will climax on 3rd June, have been organized by the Dioceses of greater Kigezi.

The Chairperson Children’s Committee, Lydia Nyesigomwe said the event was aimed at encouraging children to remain strong in the Lord until the end.
